Anthony Edwards’ cold response on LeBron James joining Timberwolves as a long shot

Minnesota Timberwolves’ chances of landing LeBron James seem low after Anthony Edwards’ reaction to a question about the 41-year-old joining.

The Timberwolves are going big game hunting to keep a competitive team around Anthony Edwards, trading for LaMelo Ball in the offseason, and pursuing LeBron James as a free agent.

While the Ball acquisition is complete, Edwards doesn’t seem the most confident about James bringing his talents to Minneapolis.

Anthony Edwards says Timberwolves aren’t in LeBron James’ top three

While at Fanatics Fest, Edwards was asked about the Timberwolves’ pursuit of LeBron, with the 24-year-old claiming that he’s seen James’ top-three shortlist and the Wolves aren’t on it.

“I have nothing to say about it because I’ve seen his top 3 teams, we’re not in it”

It’s unclear if Edwards has seen or heard of some other shortlist, because it’s widely believed that James is choosing between the Wolves, 76ers, Cavaliers, Warriors, and the Heat.

Which of these three teams are on James’ actual shortlist is anybody’s guess at this point. There have been extremely strong reports linking James to all of the remaining destinations.

One thing Edwards might be right about is that the buzz about James to Minnesota is considerably lower than the other four destinations.

LeBron James to the Minnesota Timberwolves could’ve been perfect

James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists last season, primarily as a third option behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

He could embrace that same role, but with LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards as the high-scoring backcourt.

The Wolves don’t have a starting power forward after getting rid of both Julius Randle and Naz Reid in their offseason makeover.

If LeBron joins and completes a starting five of Ball, Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert as the starting power forward, this might be one of the best five-man units in the West next season.

But with the appeal of his other four destinations as bigger markets and more compelling off-court storylines, it seems the Timberwolves are the last option.
