- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on an important summer signing as Ange Postecoglou look to bolster his squad now and build for the future.
Ange Postecoglou is heading into his second season as Tottenham Hotspur boss and is looking to add to his ranks after qualifying for the Europa League.
Tottenham do already have a couple of deals done having agreed to sign Lucas Bergvall back in February and struck a new loan deal for attacker Timo Werner.
Spurs want more though and HITC have already reported that Tottenham had opened talks to to sign Leeds United teenager Archie Gray.
The 18-year-old players more than 50 times for Leeds last season and has already picked up two England Under-21 caps.
Archie Gray set for Tottenham Hotspur
HITC understands that Gray has now finalised his agreement with Tottenham and has already completed his medical.
HITC can reveal that Gray has opted for Tottenham after speaking with Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou about his plans for the club – and that persuaded him that a move to the club was right for him.
Gray’s family – which are a huge part of his process – also gave their approval to the move after they heard Postecoglou’s ideas.
Football runs in the Gray family.
The teenager’s father Andy, grandfather Frank and great uncle Eddie all played for Leeds with Archie continuing that legacy.
Brentford miss out
Gray had previously agreed to join Brentford after they made their move late last week and he was keen to play for Thomas Frank.
However, the two clubs could not come to agreement on their payment plan of the fee.
That allowed Spurs to make their move and they wasted little time in agreeing terms, which means they will pay around £40m to sign Gray.
Tottenham are also sending defender Joe Rodon to Leeds, which is worth £10m and technically a separate deal.
The Welsh centre back spent last season on loan at Leeds and racked up 50 appearances in all competitions.
Rodon joined Tottenham from Swansea City back in 2020 but has spent the last two seasons out on loan.
Now ready to join Leeds permanently, Rodon is ready to settle down at Elland Road just as Gray departs.
