Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has opened up about Dejan Kulusevski and the Swede playing in a new position.
Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur have had a rather successful pre-season campaign as the Lilywhites look to build on their promising season under the Australian.
New midfielder signing Archie Gray impressed Spurs fans against Hearts whilst teenage sensation Mikey Moore has earned comparisons to Lamine Yamal during pre-season.
Gray and Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall earned Postecoglou’s praise after a 4-3 victory over a K-League All-Star XI.
With Tottenham hoping to make more signings, Postecoglou may well make some drastic changes to his starting lineup and one of these adjustments could be Dejan Kulusevski’s position.

Postecoglou explains Dejan Kulusevski position change
Kulusevski has played in a multitude of different positions under Postecoglou but the Swedish winger has been moved up front during pre-season.
”The beauty of Deki is that he can play a number of positions. I mean, he mainly played on the wing for us last year but also had some games in central areas and I think he’s been really good this pre-season,” Postecoglou told Football.London.
“With Richy being injured we don’t really have another number nine there and he’s done a really good job for us.
“He’s a clever footballer, you know, he was involved in the goals tonight, apart from scoring and, yeah, he’s doing really well and, you know, for us, the fact that he can play two or three positions I think is, is going to be important.”
Kulusevski could be an interesting striker option for Tottenham
Richarlison, since moving to Spurs back in the summer of 2022, has been very inconsistent for the Lilywhites since then.
After a rather profligate debut season for Spurs, Postecoglou’s first campaign as manager saw an improvement in Richarlison’s goal return as he netted 11 times and provided four assists in 28 games.
However, whilst there was an improvement in his goal return for Richarlison, relying on the Brazilian may well be a risk for the club.
HITC had reported that Spurs earmarked Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez as a striker target for the summer but if they fail to get a deal over the line, Kulusevski could be an interesting option.
The Swede is excellent with the ball at his feet and could be a link to allow Heung Min-Son to go beyond the defensive line, similar to how Harry Kane played for Spurs.
It would certainly be a risk but it could bare fruit for the club.
