Ange Postecoglou has reportedly been impressed by a Tottenham Hotspur player who has made an incredible turnaround during pre-season.

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for their second season under Ange Postecoglou after the Lilywhites finished in fifth place in the Premier League.

Spurs have signed Leeds United’s Archie Gray with the English midfielder showing his promise during pre-season. Gray turned down Brentford to sign for the North London club with Postecoglou playing a key role in the deal for the Leeds midfielder.

Postecoglou is a popular figure for the club and it appears one forgotten player has battled his way back into the Australian’s plans this season.

Postecoglou has been ‘impressed’ by Djed Spence

Earlier in the transfer window, Tottenham right-back Djed Spence looked to be on his way out of the club with Genoa attempting to sign Spence but a deal collapsed.

According to a report from Football.London, Postecoglou is keen on Spence and would be keen on giving the Englishman more chances in the Lilywhites first team.

Spence has struggled for game time at Spurs since arriving two summers ago, being sent out on loan to Rennes, Leeds and Genoa for most of that time.

However, the Englishman returned to Tottenham this summer and has reportedly impressed Postecoglou and his coaches with his application and ability in both training sessions and matches.

Yesterday, Tottenham were linked with AS Monaco’s Vanderson with the Lilywhites reportedly prepared to pay around £35 million for the Brazilian defender and this has put Spence’s future into question.

Spence has chance to finally prove himself for Tottenham

Throughout Spence’s career, the English right-back has had to prove people wrong. Spence proved Neil Warnock wrong during his spell at Nottingham Forest.

His transfer to Spurs has not worked out at all with Antonio Conte seemingly clashing with the Englishman before sanctioning loans away from the club.

Postecoglou has previously said during the club’s tour to Japan and South Korea that there was a place for Spence in his squad if he continues along his current path and the young defender takes “control of his own direction”.

The Australian has set out the gauntlet for the Englishman and it is up to Spence to take that chance.
