Arsenal have been linked with Alexis Mac Allister over the past few months.

Back in December, Spanish outlet AS claimed the Gunners had set their sights on the Argentina international.

As well as Arsenal, the likes of NewcastleLiverpoolChelsea and Tottenham have also been linked.

Journalist Paul Brown reckons Mac Allister could play a role similar to Leandro Trossard at the Emirates Stadium.

The Belgium international joined Arsenal from Brighton & Hove Albion in January for a reported £27million.

Although Trossard hasn’t been a regular for the Gunners, he has still made a fairly big impact at N5.

And Brown thinks his former Brighton teammate could do the same if he makes the same move this summer.

“He’d be coming in in the same way that Trossard has,” he told GiveMeSport.

“As another member of the squad who can come in at certain times to play but isn’t necessarily regarded as an automatic first-choice starter.”

£50m for an impact player?

Mac Allister is an outstanding player whose stock has risen massively this season.

His efforts for Brighton have made him stand out in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Mac Allister’s heroics for Argentina have propelled him into the global spotlight.

Arsenal coach Jack Wilshere named Mac Allister in his World Cup team of the tournament.

And Graeme Souness deemed him “absolutely exceptional” and better than Lionel Messi in the games he covered.

However, Mac Allister wouldn’t come cheap – 90Min reported that Brighton want at least £50million for their player.

That’s a lot of money for an impact player.

So unless Arteta plans to make Mac Allister a regular, it’s hard to see him fork out that much on him.
