Arsenal have been frustrated by Chelsea already this January after they pinched Mykhaylo Mudryk – now, a repeat could be on with Amadou Onana.
What’s the story?
Well, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri claimed that Arsenal are interested in signing the Everton No.8 this month amid injury fears surrounding Mohamed Elneny.
Mikel Arteta is hoping to sign another central midfielder to ensure his side has enough depth in that department.
However, after pinching Mudryk from the Gunners in an £88.5m deal from Shakhtar Donetsk, Chelsea could now be about to frustrate the north Londoners again.
The Times believe Chelsea are also interested in Onana, and are now stepping up their pursuit of the Belgium international.
It is said that the Blues wanted to sign Moises Caicedo or Enzo Fernandez ahead of the 21-year-old, although Brighton and Benfica are both refusing to budge from their lofty valuations.

Benfica have referred Todd Boehly to their World Cup winner’s £106m release clause, while Brighton want £100m for their Ecuador international.
Therefore, Chelsea have sensed an opportunity to sign Onana due to Everton’s financial issues.
The 6ft 4in powerhouse only joined the Toffees from Lille in a £33m deal back in August, but could leave Goodison Park as Everton find themselves in need of cash due to Financial Fair Play issues.
Onana should choose Arsenal over Chelsea
In our view, Onana should only leave Everton for Arsenal.
Arteta has proven himself to be a superb coach when it comes to working with young players, and we believe the Belgian maestro’s game will go to another level under the Spaniard.
Onana would also have a pretty good chance of winning the Premier League if he moved to Arsenal this month.
In contrast, Graham Potter is struggling at Chelsea with the Blues sat 10th in the Premier League, and the pressure of that situation could potentially affect Onana’s development if he does join.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen.
