Whisper it, but there could be a very interesting piece of Chelsea transfer news on the horizon.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are in the market for another central defender this summer.

One name that refuses to go away belongs to Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana.

Chelsea have had two offers rejected for the French powerhouse already, with the most recent being around £70 million.

The Foxes are reportedly holding out for £80 million and maybe, just maybe, there’s about to be an interesting development on this front.

That’s because Fofana is set to be omitted by Brendan Rodgers completely for City’s visit of Southampton this afternoon.

According to 90 Min and RMC Sport, the reported Chelsea target will not be included in the squad for a development which could possibly indicate that there’s been movement behind the scenes with regards to Fofana heading to West London this summer.

Of course, it isn’t guaranteed that the two events are connected.

However, with no injury reported for Fofana, it is a relatively reliable assumption to make that his imminent omission from the squad could well be linked to a potential transfer to Chelsea.

The Blues are already the highest-spending Premier League outfit this summer and suffice to say they’re going to obliterate everybody in this department if and when the former Saint-Etienne defender is recruited.
