Speculation is mounting that Raul de Tomas to Arsenal could be happening this summer.
The Spanish striker was linked with a transfer to the Gunners during the January transfer window as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but nothing materialised.
If Arsenal have better luck this time, it could be a major bargain.
That’s because with a release clause of £60 million, it has been reported that a little over £21 million could be enough to bring De Tomas to the Emirates Stadium [SuperDeporte].
And based on his statistics, well there’s a hell of a lot of value in that figure.
De Tomas netted 17 Liga goals for Espanyol this past season [Transfermarkt]. Only two players – Karim Benzema and Iago Aspas – scored more than him in the league.
So to find a striker that prolific – and one in the prime of his career, being 27 – for roughly £21 million could be an incredible steal by Arsenal and one they really must consider.
There’s a multitude of number nines being linked with transfers to the Emirates this summer, like Gabriel Jesus, who is reportedly close to joining for £50 million, and Alvaro Morata who’s been the subject of an offer by the North Londoners.
However, in terms of value, there’s a lot in the form of De Tomas and with Eddie Nketiah being Mikel Arteta’s only senior forward option at the moment, well perhaps the Spaniard and one of the other two coming may be considered over the coming months.
