CIES have published their latest report, and this time around, The Football Observatory have been looking at some of the most valuable players outside of Europe’s top five leagues.

There are some incredibly talented players in these fringe leagues, and as you can imagine, the list is dominated by players plying their trade in Portugal.

The likes of Luis Diaz, Ederson and Ruben Dias have come from the Portuguese League in recent years, so there are some gems to uncover, and according to CIES,the most valuable player outside of Europe’s top five leagues right now is Darwin Nunez.

Indeed, according to their research and market analysis, Nunez is worth a whopping €70.7m (£59.5m).

Even at that price, the Uruguayan striker has been attracting all sorts of interest from the Premier League, with both Arsenal and Tottenham credited with an interest in the centre-forward.

It’s not hard to see why so many teams are keen on Nunez. He’s been an absolute revelation over in Portugal, and at the age of just 22, he has so much room to grow.

He has no fewer than 26 league goals this season, while he’s also made his mark in the Champions League, notably netting a brace against Barcelona in the Group Stages before also netting against Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

Nunez looks as though he will be on the move this summer, but if any team wants to get the Uruguayan out of Benfica, they will have to cough up some serious cash to bring him in.

Nunez may well be one of the most expensive players signed this summer.
