The Athletic claim Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes has ‘approached’ both Tammy Abraham and Darwin Nunez about a move to Tottenham this summer – with Harry Kane’s future at Spurs still under the microscope.

Kane, 28, has been on fire for Spurs since the arrival of Antonio Conte. But after coming so close to an exit last summer, he could be tempted to leave at the end of the season. Especially, if Spurs fail to achieve fourth position.

Mendes has identified the possibility of Kane leaving Spurs in the next few months, and has already started the procedure of finding the North London club a replacement. Namely, England’s Abraham, and Benfica ace Nunez.

Abraham is shining under Jose Mourinho at Roma after completing a £34million move from Chelsea last summer (BBC). The England forward has netted 23 goals in 40 games in what is his first season in a new country.

Meanwhile, Uruguay star Nunez continues to be linked with the biggest clubs in Europe. Little surprise, given his enormous 26 goals in 33 games alongside Jan Vertonghen. Both Abraham and Nunez would cost huge sums.

Abraham and Nunez: Viable Tottenham replacements for Kane?

Tottenham are not going to be able to replace Kane. His ability to play as two players – a 10 and a nine – is unmatched in European football. But signing two big players with the fee would certainly help.

Bringing in a striker with the finishing ability of Kane, the no.9 part of his game, is a must. Abraham, 24, and 22-year-old Nunez both certainly have that, and give Spurs an option going forward for many years.

But Spurs cannot simply replace Kane with a striker. They must also bring a Christian Eriksen-like playmaker into the side to feed the likes of Abraham or Nunez. Who knows, Kane might even stay at Spurs again this summer.
