Serhiy Rebrov has been quizzed about a potential return to Tottenham Hotspur, explaining to Kbirna that his contract at Hungarian league champions Ferencvaros may be terminated this summer.
Rebrov the footballer might have toiled during four rather underwhelming years in North London between 2000 and 2004 – but Rebrov the manager, however, is a different beast entirely.
The former Ukraine international has lifted an impressive eight trophies during his coaching career and, as recently as April, guided Ferencvaros to a third successive Hungarian title.
FCT also qualified for the Champions League for the first time in 25 years under Rebrov, defeating Celtic in a tense play-off tie in July 2020.
While Spurs supporters may be pining for a more high-profile tactician, with the one-man winning machine that is Antonio Conte now the clear frontrunner to replace his old nemesis Jose Mourinho, Rebrov represents an intriguing alternative – a man who knows the club, boasts a highly-impressive 64 per cent win rate and, crucially, has a proven track record when it comes to securing silverware.
Rebrov ‘offered to Tottenham’ amid Conte rumours
Tuttomercatoweb reported last week that Rebrov had been offered to Tottenham.
And, when asked about a potential return to his old stomping ground, the 47-year-old refused to rule anything out with his trophy-laden spell at Ferencvaros expected to end in rather acrimonious circumstances.
“There are some offers, but I answer with only one thing – I have a valid contract with Ferencvaros. As soon as it is terminated, we will certainly talk,” Rebrov said.

That contract has a year left to run but, amid divisions over the club’s transfer policy, Rebrov could walk away from Ferencvaros as early as this summer.
Rebrov: ‘I deserve to have my opinion heard’ as manager
“After some nuances appeared in Ferencvaros’ transfer policy at the beginning of the year, I told the president that I did not agree with some things,” Rebrov explained.
“I think that after three league titles, after reaching the Europa League and the Champions League, I definitely deserve to have my opinion heard before signing new players. The President assured me that there would be no transfers without my consent, and after that the club signed another newcomer…
“Of course, I reacted to this situation and, in a conversation with my agent Sandor Varga, said that I would not continue to work like this.
“People meet me on the streets and ask only one thing: ‘Sergei, why are you leaving?’”
