Diogo Jota has played down speculation about the prospect of Darwin Nunez joining him at Liverpool, claiming that he has ‘no idea’ about who the club are going to sign.
According to Record in Portugal, Liverpool have submitted an £85 million offer for the player.
Jurgen Klopp is reported to be a massive fan of the Benfica attacker, who dazzled against the Reds in a Champions League tie earlier in 2022.
Earlier today it was also reported by The Times that a transfer to Anfield would certainly appeal to the player who netted 34 goals across all competitions for the Portuguese giants this past season.
But has Jota – a £45 million signing in 2020 – heard anything about the Uruguay international coming in?
The Portuguese hitman told Mais Futebol: “I don’t know, I’m focused on the national team. The market will move, I have no idea what the signings could be. I had the opportunity to play against him and he’s a good player, but I can’t say anything else at the moment.”
Is Darwin Nunez signing for Liverpool?
Well the speculation certainly indicates that it’s very possible.
However, it’s worth pointing out that Spain has been earmarked as a more realistic destination than the Premier League.
At this time of the year, the rumour mill goes into overdrive and sifting fact from fiction can be a nightmare.
But it’s certainly plausible that Liverpool – who are set to lose Sadio Mane – do want the 22-year-old, because it absolutely makes sense, given how he’s already performed at Anfield this past season.
Whether or not Fenway Sports Group back Klopp with the £85 million needed, though, is another thing.
