According to both The Times and the Daily Mail, a move to Liverpool would appeal to Darwin Nunez this summer.
Nunez is one of the hottest properties in Europe right now and there are many clubs after his signature including Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.
The Uruguayan is coming off the back of a season where he netted 26 league goals, while he also made a real impact in the Champions League, netting six goals in the competition, including strikes against both Liverpool and Barcelona.
With Sadio Mane seemingly on his way out, Liverpool need to add some more quality to their attack, and Nunez could be just the man they need.
The striker is apparently open to the move, with The Times stating that the chance to work with Jurgen Klopp appeals to the striker, but, as ever, this deal won’t be cheap.
Indeed, according to this article, Benfica want €100m (£85m) for their star man, and that would represent a club-record fee for Liverpool.
The Reds should have plenty to spend this summer, especially if Mane is sold, but £85m on one player who has never played a single minute of football in a traditional top-5 league isn’t a very Liverpool move.
However, with Michael Edwards gone and Julian Ward now at the helm, the Reds’ transfer strategy could quickly shift, and as we’ve seen with Luis Diaz, signings from Portugal can be absolutely brilliant.
The Merseyside club will also assess other targets, but Nunez is one name on Klopp’s list, and with a move to Anfield appealing to the ‘special player’, this is certainly one to keep an eye on.
