According to The Telegraph, the most likely destination for Darwin Nunez this summer is La Liga.
This news is likely to be a blow for Liverpool. After all, the Uruguayan striker has been touted as one of the Reds’ top targets this summer.
Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ‘crazy’ about the striker, and depending on which reports you decide to believe, the Reds have already submitted an £85m bid for the Benfica forward.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, The Telegraph are led to believe that the most likely destination for Nunez is La Liga, and with Atletico Madrid chasing his signature, he does have options in Spain.
To be fair, we can understand why Nunez would prefer a move to Spain over a transfer to the Premier League. South Americans often acclimatise better to Spanish football, the language barrier isn’t an issue and he shouldn’t be too unsettled upon arrival after leaving Lisbon.
On the other hand, a move to Merseyside or Manchester would be a massive culture shock for Nunez, and at this point in his career, we can respect that he may not want to take that kind of gamble.
Of course, things can go the other way, just look at how well Luis Diaz has done since he arrived from Porto in January, and he’s only been in the Premier League for half a season.
Liverpool could convince Nunez to change his plans, but right now, it looks as though the 22-year-old is more likely to head to Spain than England.
