A player with whom Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers were linked last season has signed a new deal at Sheffield United.
John Egan was a key member of the Sheffield United team that defied expectations to finish ninth in the Premier League.
And the centre-back’s form throughout that campaign saw both Everton (Sun on Sunday) and Wolves (also Sun on Sunday) credited with an interest.
Egan’s position is one in which Everton and Wolves are both being tipped to strengthen ahead of the new season, with their targets said to include Gabriel Magalhaes and Cesar Montes, respectively.
It was claimed that Sheffield United valued Egan at around £30 million, but that figure is likely to rise after Friday’s announcement that the Irishman has committed himself to the Blades until 2024.
And the news should be enough to deter any planned pursuit by Everton, Wolves or anyone else for that matter.

Egan, a Republic of Ireland international, is the latest player tied down by Sheffield United, after Chris Basham, Oliver Norwood and Billy Sharp.
