Matt Turner to Arsenal is expected to be announced next week.
According to Sky Sports, the USA international is due to arrive in North London this Wednesday ahead of his official Arsenal unveiling.
Technically, the Gunners snapped up the 27-year-old goalkeeper shortly after the January transfer window and a summer arrival was always the plan.
The North Londoners haven’t confirmed it yet or even acknowledged Turner’s existence.
But it’s definitely happening, particularly considering that Turner himself has already spoken to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he has revealed what the Spanish coach has told him ahead of his move to the Emirates Stadium: “We’ve talked a little bit. His main message for me was just to focus on what I need to focus on right now, getting through these next few months, staying healthy, staying fit and getting ready for pre-season and compete.”
Matt Turner to Arsenal – a gamble?
Matt Turner to Arsenal is likely to result in Bernd Leno being moved on.
But this is definitely a risk by the Gunners.
After all, the American stopper has zero experience of Premier League football and considering Leno is an excellent back-up option to Aaron Ramsdale, well Arteta’s side could be in trouble if the former Sheffield United keeper is out for any length of time next term.
That being said, Arsenal shouldn’t be doubted when it comes to goalkeepers.
This time last year, Arteta was raising eyebrows for a £30 million transfer for Ramsdale, who turned out to be an exceptional signing.
And hopefully for Turner, the same is true of him.
