West Ham suffered a frustrating start to the summer window with a number of players slipping through their fingers.

The Hammers had multiple targets turn down a move to the London Stadium.

HITC confirmed that West Ham failed in their bid to sign Neco Williams with Nottingham Forest rejecting their bid.

The Hammers also walked away from a deal for Noussair Mazraoui with Manchester United now leading the race for the Bayern Munich right-back.

Things are starting to look up for West Ham and Julen Lopetegui however, with Crysencio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug signed and Guido Rodriguez also joining after they hijacked Jose Mourinho.

HITC confirmed in June that West Ham were interested in a deal for Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia alongside a host of Premier League clubs.

However, the 27-year-old ultimately chose to join Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen instead.

£15m star opens up on West Ham decision

Aleix Garcia excelled at Girona last season and was hot property in this summer’s window. West Ham pushed hard for Garcia as their top midfield target but missed out.

Speaking to Sport Bild, the 27-year-old revealed why he decided to reject West Ham’s “interesting” offer.

“The offer was very interesting,” said Garcia.

“West Ham’s new coach Julen Lopetegui had called me often. But in the end, it was the calls from Xabi [Alonso], the Champions League and the club’s overall package that tipped the scales in Leverkusen’s favour.

“Alejandro Grimaldo also told me a lot about Bayer when he was with the national team. In the end he helped me a little to make my decision. It is of course important for me as a player to know what is going on in a club.”

Leverkusen snapped up Garcia on an €18million (£15million) deal at the start of July.

West Ham transfer news

West Ham have already moved on from Garcia’s rejection and hijacked Fenerbahce’s deal for Guido Rodriguez.

The Hammers announced the signing of the Argentine midfielder on Tuesday, making him their sixth signing of the summer.

The Irons could now allow Tomas Soucek to leave with Jose Mourinho wanting to sign him after missing out on Rodriguez.
