- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
HITC understands that Bayer Leverkusen have won the race to sign one player who was linked with a trio of Premier League clubs.
Under Xabi Alonso, Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga title after going the entire campaign unbeaten in what was a remarkable achievement for the German side who pipped Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich to the title.
Leverkusen came close to winning a historic treble but were soundly beaten 3-0 in the Europa League final by Gian Pero Gasperini’s Atalanta thanks to an Ademola Lookman hattrick.
Despite the success the club had, it seems they are not stopping there as they are set to make moves in the transfer market.

Leverkusen win transfer race
Sources have told HITC that Leverkusen have won the race for Spanish midfielder Aleix Garcia, who excelled for Girona last season.
The Spanish side finished in the Champions League places and Garcia was vital for the club but it appears a move to the Bundesliga is on the horizon for the Spaniard.
In 37 La Liga games for Girona, Garcia scored three times and laid on six assists for the club as they finished third place in the Spanish top division.
Sources have told HITC that terms have been agreed between Girona and Leverkusen for the transfer of Garcia, which will be a blow to the trio of clubs who were interested in the 26-year-old.
Premier League interest
It wasn’t just Leverkusen who were interested in the Spaniard, there was interest from England too with HITC understanding that Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Aston Villa all had conversations about the midfielder.
Despite interest from England, Garcia was keen on playing for Alonso who masterminded a superb league triumph for a club who were once nicknamed ‘Neverkusen’.
The interest from England was there but these clubs never really stood a chance once Alonso’s side declared their interest in the Spaniard.
