Crystal Palace and Southampton have received a boost in their pursuit of Djed Spence as Tottenham are now open to letting him depart.

What’s the story?

Well, the England Under-21 international joined Spurs from Middlesbrough back in July for an initial £12.5m fee, with the deal potentially rising to £20m if add-ons are met.

However, things have not been easy for Spence in north London, with Antonio Conte handing the right-back just four Premier League appearances as Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty are preferred.

Now, Crystal Palace or Southampton could take advantage of that situation.

Football London believe Tottenham have given Spence the green light to leave on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign, as they close in on a deal to sign Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon.

Leicester, Brighton and Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old.

Football London add that Tottenham have no interest in agreeing to any obligations or options to buy Spence, and are only focused on a straight loan at this point.

However, it is said that their stance could change if Porro arrives.

Crystal Palace should be wary of Southampton target

As talented as Spence is, and as much as Patrick Vieira needs a new right-back, Crystal Palace should be wary of signing Spence given Tottenham’s resistance to a permanent deal.

The south Londoners are often stung by their inability to sign loan stars on a permanent basis, such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher.

Of course, Spence is a superb talent and would solve Vieira’s right-back issues for six months, but the Eagles will then find themselves back to square one in the summer when Spurs take their No.24 back.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as official confirmation of a deal for Porro should see Spence’s immediate future resolved swiftly.
