Yunus Musah called Weston McKennie a ‘maestro’ on Instagram after the Leeds United star’s stunning assist helped the USMNT see off El Salvador on Tuesday morning.
Ricardo Pepi scored the only goal of the game just after the hour mark when on-loan Leeds star Weston McKennie picked up the ball from his own half and played a brilliantly weighted through ball for the 20-year-old striker to dink over the goalkeeper.
That’s two wins from two for the USA in the CONCACAF Nations League after they put seven goals past Grenada on Saturday, which included a much-needed goal for Brenden Aaronson.
Amid Leeds’ relegation battle, the Yorkshire faithful will be glad that a number of their players are boosting their confidence over the international break.
McKennie is certainly doing that, although, possible injuries to Wilfried Gnonto for Italy and Max Wober for Austria, might just put a dampener on things for Javi Garcia.
Nonetheless, following the USA’s win over El Salvador, McKennie expressed his delight at the three points, as he was lauded in the comments section of his post.
Added to Musah calling the Juventus-owned midfielder a ‘maestro’, fans and friends alike lauded him for his performance, including that ‘monumental’ assist.
MCKENNIE’S FORM PICKING UP
It didn’t help McKennie’s cause that, as soon as he walked through the doors at Leeds during the January transfer window, the man that brought him in, Jesse Marsch, was booted out next to no time.
Versatile defender Max Wober came out and publicly admitted that he was missing Marsch, who left only days after the winter transfer window was shut.
Either way, whilst it took an age for those at Elland Road to bring someone in, Garcia is now starting to pick up the club’s form, including someone like McKennie, who will be hoping to power the Whites to safety with nine teams engulfed in a relegation dogfight.
