Serious questions are being asked following the USMNT’s elimination from the World Cup on Monday.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were not only beaten, they were embarrassed by Belgium in Seattle, with many feeling the USMNT bowed out against the first challenging opponent.

The question is now what is next for US soccer following the disappointment against Belgium?

🤔 Should Pochettino stay as USA manager or come back to club football? And why?

He has been offered a contract extension to take him to the next World Cup…

It has been an extremely positive tournament for the USMNT up until that point, with a lot of new supporters gained along the way.

However, many still find themselves asking what is the next step needing to be taken to really threaten the top sides of the tournament.

Emotions are clearly still running extremely high in the States, with Kevin Frazier not holding back in his criticism of pundit Alexi Lalas.

Kevin Frazier takes aim at Alexi Lalas with his USMNT World Cup criticism

The USMNT did a lot right during their World Cup journey, but the game up in the Pacific Northwest was not one they’ll want to remember.

Former England soccer player Stan Collymore told the USMNT they’ll never be good enough, with Frazier claiming people like Lalas are part of the problem behind the lack of progression in US soccer.

“I’ve been dying to come here and talk US soccer. I was like, “I’ve got to come here and get this off my chest.”,” he said on the Dan Patrick Show.

“Listen, man, we’ve got to stop Alexi Lalas. What is going on? What is happening? Alexi, slow down, bro. Slow down.

“I’ve been listening to some of these takes recently. You know, every four years we lose, and we go through this thing where we say, “What’s the problem with US soccer?” Then he gives his explanation. He’s like, “Oh, the pay-for-play system works and it’s okay.”

“And I’m like, “Alexi, what are you talking about?” You benefited from it as a kid from the suburbs. But back when the US sucked in Italy, you were part of the problem. You are part of the problem. Stop talking about US soccer like you know it. You don’t.”

Clearly, something needs to change at grassroots level for US soccer to truly progress.

Lalas may well be a former USMNT player, but it has become apparent that not everyone feels he speaks for the nation when it comes to soccer.

Frazier clearly suggests that Lalas is pushing the ‘pay-for-play’ system for his own benefit, with American kids struggling to make a breakthrough in the world’s game.
