Earlier today, the Tottenham squad – including Djed Spence – continued their preparations ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest.
Sadly, the England Under-21 international is yet to make a competitive appearance for Spurs since his £12.5m move from Middlesbrough at the end of July.
The 22-year-old was even left out of the squad entirely by Antonio Conte for last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Wolves.
However, Spence surely impressed the Italian with his efforts in a one-on-one drill at Hotspur Way.
What’s the story?
Well, the right-back took on Harvey White in a session designed for him to beat his man, before finishing beyond the goalkeeper.
Spence took on the appearance of Cristiano Ronaldo as he threw in a number of stepovers to bamboozle his 20-year-old teammate, before shifting the ball onto his right foot and finding the bottom right corner.
You can see the video in question below.
For someone expected to play as a right wing-back when he does eventually break into the starting XI, his impressive balance, finishing skills and change of pace are exactly what Conte will be looking for.
We didn’t see it in the footage, but Spence also possesses a wicked cross, so if he can adjust to the Italian’s demanding style, he could make that right flank his own in N17.
Tottenham must start using Djed Spence
In our view, Conte has to give Spence a chance soon.
The defender has shown “no desire” to go out on loan, and with Emerson Royal hardly setting the world alight in north London – despite vast improvement – it’s time for Spence to have an opportunity.

What better time for him to make his debut than against Nottingham Forest – the side where he put his name up in lights last season during a loan spell from Middlesbrough.
If he does well, his value will surely soar. After all, look at Leicester, who are receiving bids worth £70m for Wesley Fofana, a player just one year younger than Spence.
Hopefully, the Tottenham No.24 gets an opportunity at the City Ground on Sunday.
