Jermaine Defoe has reacted to the prospect of becoming the next manager of Tottenham Hotspur after Antonio Conte’s departure.

Just recently, Chris Sutton had said that while the former Spurs striker would make for a ‘top-class’ boss one day on BBC Five Live’s Monday Night Club, the appointment would be viewed as a huge risk.

Jermain Defoe has now given his thoughts on how he would react if he was offered the Tottenham Hotspur manager job.

For those that are unaware, Defoe is currently an academy coach at the Lilywhites.

But of course, to manage a club as big as Spurs and that too, in such trying times would be a huge test for the 40-year-old as his first job.

However, Jermain Defoe has now reacted to the hypothetical scenario of him becoming the next manager of Tottenham.

“Chris Sutton said that? That’s quite a positive I appreciate it actually. As I’ve said many times on this podcast, I don’t think you need to rush into it. I want to learn as much as I can and when I get that first job, I am ready, I don’t want to jump in too soon”, he said on the Outside the Box podcast.

“But in football, you never know, getting the Spurs job now would be crazy, wouldn’t it?”

One for the future

It goes without saying that as talented as a coach as the Englishman may be, there is no chance that he takes over the helm at N17.

But this is not to say that Jermain Defoe could not return to Tottenham as their manager, as up-and-coming coaches are slowly but surely dominating the game.

Considering Defoe remains such an adored figure at the club, it would be a glorious story to see him become the side’s manager one day.
