Stevie Nicol has rejected the suggestion that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool should sign Everton midfielder, Amadou Onana, after losing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.

The Liverpool legend stated that Amadou Onana is someone who is great at ‘winning the ball’, but he has an issue at ‘giving the ball away a lot’, as he told ESPN.

Given Everton’s financial issues, there has always been talk about their big-name players possibly being available for transfer.

Onana is no different, with Manchester United and Arsenal expressing interest in the 22-year-old, but as of this moment, he is still at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche will be hoping that remains the case because the £100k-a-week star (Spotrac) is a key player for the Toffees, with the 2023 summer transfer window set to slam shut in a few weeks.

But with those across Merseyside losing out on Moises Caicedo to Chelsea, and talk that Romeo Lavia could follow suit, then midfield names were thrown at Nicol that Liverpool could sign, including Onana, and he responded.

“Onana at Everton?” Nicol responded to the suggestion that Liverpool should sign him. “The problem with Onana is that he gives the ball away a lot.

“So, when you win it, then give it back. It kind of negates the whole process. You need somebody to win it first. But then you need to keep it.”

Klopp has been let down

The German has done wonders at the club, but he is being let down here by the powers that be at the top of Liverpool’s tree.

Even when Fabinho and Jordan Henderson were still at the club, it could have been argued that another midfield player was needed on top of summer signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Now that those two are in Saudi Arabia, then the Reds seriously need to get moving because they can’t go a full season with just the current crop of midfield stars that they have.
