Michail Antonio has described Chelsea and Liverpool’s recent transfer battles as ‘madness’, with the latter losing out to Mauricio Pochettino’s side on Moises Caicedo.

The West Ham United forward also mentioned Southampton teenager Romeo Lavia and how ‘I am hearing’ that he wants to join Chelsea over Liverpool, as he told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

This is despite Jurgen Klopp’s side expressing interest in the former Manchester City player, who was relegated with Southampton this season.

For Chelsea, if they do nab Lavia’s talents, then that’s another player they have managed to sign from underneath the noses of their rivals.

It would be a statement of intent, especially after they missed out on European football altogether last season and the aim this term is to get back to the big time.

With Liverpool losing the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, not yet replacing those two and getting weaker, then this does help Chelsea’s cause even more.

“It’s a madness,” said Antonio. “Liverpool go bid, bid, bid, then Chelsea go, ‘nah, man is stepping in. This is my player now,” said Antonio. “They got him because Caicedo is a massive Chelsea fan.

“Then, the Southampton midfielder, Romeo Lavia. Again, Liverpool (put down) £60 million accepted.

“Now, I am hearing that Lavia wants to go Chelsea as well. I am like ‘what!?’. They are moving mad.”

Big few weeks remain in the transfer window

As of this moment, Chelsea fans will be dancing from the rooftops that they are signing these players and that from a weak point.

Whilst the Anfield faithful will be annoyed about how their club has gone about business, but they need to remember that a few weeks still remain of the 2023 summer transfer window.

This is going to be very, very crucial for both parties because it might just lay down the foundation for what is to come this season.
