Clinton Morrison told Sky Sports News (07/07/21 at 8:55 am) that, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, has to stay at Everton this summer amid rumours of Arsenal’s interest.
The Telegraph did report last month that Arsenal want to sign the £50 million attacker from Everton.
Calvert-Lewin is currently on national duty with England at Euro 2020, but if he were to swap Everton colours for Arsenal’s then it would be a surprise.
But with Rafa Benitez, the new man in Everton’s dugout, ex-Premier League striker, Morrison, thinks it is paramount that someone like Calvert-Lewin stays put amid those rumours.
“He (Benitez) does need to hit the ground running,” said Morrison. “He cannot lose players like Calvert-Lewin.
“I have seen that he has been linked with bigger clubs. You have to keep your main players there because he is an important player. But I think they will do well.”
A towering centre-forward, who has added a dose of efficiency to his game, Calvert-Lewin is seen as the next man behind Harry Kane’s throne.
Gareth Southgate opted to take two out-and-out strikers to Euro 2020 – Kane was going to be the obvious one, but Everton’s number nine was the other one.
Calvert-Lewin produced his best season in the Premier League last season, as he hit 16 goals and it’s no surprise that Arsenal are looking at his talents.
But given that both the Toffees and Arsenal finished outside of Europe last season, and are both searching for the same goal, it would be a bit idiotic for those on Merseyside to even consider any talks with the Gunners.
