Arsenal were able to throw some big money at Declan Rice last summer and it helped boost their squad.
But they will find it a little bit more difficult to do that this time around because of financial restrictions.
You feel Mikel Arteta needs to be ruthless in the transfer market. He certainly does it when he is buying players because he doesn’t mind who gets dropped.
That was proven when he signed David Raya on a loan deal last summer and benched his number-one goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale.
Arsenal didn’t go on to win the Premier League title, but that call still made a difference in how the team played and fought for the title.
And now many feel the same needs to happen this summer, especially with players who have no future at the Emirates.
Gab Marcotti suggested that it’s time Arsenal sold defender Nuno Tavares given his struggles at the club, as he told ESPN.
The European football expert highlighted how Tavares, who was on loan at Nottingham Forest, has a contract that runs until 2025 and ‘you have to move him on’.
When he first joined Arsenal in 2021, there were high expectations on his shoulders, but he just hasn’t been able to hit the heights.
Nuno Tavares to leave Arsenal?
“Loan players, we have two fullbacks on loan (Tierney and Nuno Tavares),” said Marcotti. “Tavares is 24. His deal expires in 2025. He was on loan at Nottingham Forest.
“He had a really good year, where he played a lot for Marseille, the year before and, at Forest, he was slowed down by injuries. I don’t think he had much of an impact. You are obviously aren’t going to extend him. You have to move him on.
“I think you can maybe get £5-8 million. Something like that. Given that he is still young.”

Arsenal’s left-back spot
This is an interesting area, and if the club get it right, it could prove to be the difference in the team winning the title or not next season.
You can’t see Tavares having any future at the club, Kieran Tierney has had another injury-hit campaign out on loan, whilst Oleksandr Zinchenko’s form has fallen off, there are questions over Jakub Kiwior’s future and then that leaves Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Arteta needs to get this area of the pitch right for next season.
Arsenal had the best defence in the Premier League this season with only 29 goals conceded. You know who three of the back four are – Ben White, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.
They are regulars, it’s just about getting that left-back spot sorted and it will make the team’s defence even better.
