Herculez Gomez has backed Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Santiago Gimenez to leave Feyenoord and join either Real Madrid or Sevilla.

The USA-based pundit has backed the Mexico star to ‘go’ and take the gig at Real Madrid, if it was offered to Santiago Gimenez, or the more realistic option and ‘massive possibility’ of joining Sevilla, who recently won yet another Europa League, as he told ESPN.

But the 22-year-old isn’t attracting interest from just Spain because it has also been suggested that Tottenham are also keen on the 28-goal forward.

With Spurs finally announcing a new manager, it’s about time they started to make moves in the transfer market.

Ange Postecoglou is the club’s new man and he loves to play attacking football, so in order to enhance that style at Hotspur Way, you need that attacking quality throughout the squad.

Well, former USMNT star Gomez, is backing one of Tottenham’s targets to head to Spain, instead of England.

“If you can go to Real Madrid, then you go,” said Gomez. “Being ready for it and taking advantage of the opportunity are two different things.

“I think he is a player if you put him in positions to score, then he will score. If you are at a team like Real Madrid, then you will be in a position to score. They are a very good transition team. I think Santi Gimenez is a very good and mobile forward. But it’s about getting there and staying there. But I don’t think it’s a possibility.

“I do think a team like Sevilla is a massive possibility – if you follow his dad, then he has been spending a lot of time with some Real Betis people, not saying it’s Real Betis, but they are in the same city as Sevilla, so yes, I think there is a possibility of Sevilla.”

Tottenham should push for Gimenez

Yes, Spurs don’t have a great history of signing strikers from the Dutch league that are doing bits after the flop job of a certain Vincent Janssen.

But that shouldn’t push the club away from still looking for top talent in that league, and after guiding Feyenoord to the title, Gimenez is one of the best in that league.

A player of great penalty-box strength, the all-action forward is rising up to be a top performer, and when the likes of Real Madrid are being mentioned as possible destinations, then you know he has something in his locker.
