Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese has given an update on whether Tottenham Hotspur-linked Santiago Gimenez is on his way out.

The 48-year-old was speaking to Mexican television outlet TV Azteca about the prolific striker, who was first linked with Spurs in April.

As Tottenham Hotspur may have identified Santiago Gimenez as the man to potentially replace Harry Kane, Dennis te Kloese has spoken about his future.

Gimenez has been integral to Arne Slot’s side winning the Eredivisie, scoring 15 goals in the league, while also chipping in with five in their Europa League run.

With Harry Kane constantly linked with an exit, as Manchester United are believed to be lurking in a bid to sign him, the Mexican international may prove to be an able replacement.

However, Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese seems to indicate that the club have no intention of selling Santiago Gimenez to Tottenham or any suitor.

“The great argument [for him to stay] that we have is that next year we have qualified for the Champions League directly and I don’t think there is a better challenge for a footballer than playing in the Champions League and he should take advantage of it.”

The Feyenoord chief went on to say that it seems unlikely that Tottenham-linked goalscorer Santiago Gimenez has any plans of leaving the club this summer.

“In football you never know, but for now there are no formal approaches to the club, he has a long-term contract, we have no indication that he is going to go to another club.”

However, it was indicated that a top club like Tottenham could sign Santiago Gimenez one day by him, as he admitted, “On the other hand, you have to take care of people, be close to him, since he is very clear about his goals and the path to follow. I don’t think he’s going to play for Feyenoord all his life.”

“There will be a moment when he is concerned about taking a step forward, that will happen when the time is right, and more with the experience of playing in the Champions League and more constant matches at a high competitive level, he will give more to his future.”

Tottenham need to sign a striker as the first act of their summer business

If the move for Santiago Gimenez falls through, Tottenham need not worry.

Instead, Spurs should look elsewhere and swiftly, as a failure to bring in an adequate replacement for Harry Kane, if he leaves would be catastrophic from the club.

Kane is already as irreplaceable as a player can get and to not even wrap up a deal for the ideal successor early into the window could make life hell for the incoming manager in their first season.
