Aston Villa fans have reacted on Twitter to the part Emi Martinez has played in his side beating Arsenal to the rumoured transfer of Emi Buendia.
The Telegraph reported on Saturday that Villa are on the brink of a £33 million club-record deal for Buendia – beating Arsenal along the way to his talents.
Midlands reporter, John Percy, who was one of a number of journalists breaking the news about Buendia, stated on Twitter that ‘don’t ignore’ the influence Martinez had on his fellow countryman joining Villa.
Added with that, Villa’s Player of the Season for 2020/21, who joined from Arsenal last summer, also liked a post on Instagram that was praising him for acting like an ‘agent’ in the quick-footed playmaker heading to the Midlands.
Of course, the deal isn’t over the line yet, and anything can happen, but it seems as though Buendia will be donning the colours of Claret and Blue next season.
Understandably, it has delighted the Villa Park faithful because it now means they can line up with a forward line of Jack Grealish, Ollie Watkins, Buendia, John McGinn, Anwar El Ghazi and Bertrand Traore, to name a few.
It also sets an early benchmark from Villa that they mean serious business in their bid to win trophies again and secure European football.
Only last season, Jack Grealish signed a new contract, and given the improvements the club has made since their promotion, they aren’t stopping in their quest to reach the big heights once again.
If this Buendia deal is signed and delivered then it will be interesting to see how Villa attack the rest of the summer market, which hasn’t even opened yet.
