Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after Football London revealed that Mikel Arteta views Gabriel Martinelli as a potential centre-forward.
Football London add that the Brazilian has been taking individual training sessions – on his own accord – in order to improve his shooting ability.
The 19-year-old uploaded some footage of himself on Instagram earlier in the week, in which he was being fed deliveries into the box before finishing superbly.
This prompted some fans to think the teenager was being ‘converted’ into a new position, and it seems they were spot on.
Arteta’s decision makes sense.
When he hasn’t been playing on the flanks, Martinelli has made nine appearances as a centre-forward for the Gunners.
In those outings, he has an eye-catching seven goals and one assist.
In that respect, it’s no wonder that Arteta is keen to shape his wonderkid into a central striker – the stats don’t lie.
From where we stand, we’re really impressed that Martinelli has taken it upon himself to do extra sessions as well.
It shows that the prodigy has a real desire to improve himself, and make up for the time he has missed through injury.
