It’s fair to say Cameron Carter-Vickers has gone from strength to strength since leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

The burly defender only permanently left Spurs this past summer, joining Celtic in a £6 million transfer [The Times].

Carter-Vickers originally joined the Hoops on a season-long loan during the summer of 2021 and helped them reclaim the Scottish Premiership title last term.

With the reigning champions boasting a nine-point lead over Rangers now too, it looks likely that the USA international will enjoy back-to-back titles up North.

But before that, the big man has a World Cup round-of-16 encounter to look forward to.

The Americans qualified from the group alongside England and will now take on the Netherlands in the second round tomorrow afternoon.

Carter-Vickers sent a celebratory post-match Instagram message on Thursday and Sam Cox, a Tottenham coach at Hotspur Way, responded, ‘Yes brother Cam’, followed by a heart emoji.

Still only 24, it’s good to see the Hotspur Way graduate find his own way.

Carter-Vickers never made a Premier League appearance for Tottenham and for a while it looked like he’d be one of the many players who endures loan spell after loan spell, before disappearing from the public consciousness entirely.

But in fairness to him, this is someone who Jan Vertonghen once labelled an ‘absolute beast’ [ESPN] and therefore we shouldn’t be entirely surprised to see him land on his feet like this.

And the way USA are playing, he could be a World Cup quarter-finalist in 48 hours.
