Arsenal fans are currently worried after hearing about an injury to Gabriel Jesus, which he suffered playing for Brazil at the World Cup.

According to the Telegraph, the Arsenal No.9 will require surgery after suffering medial ligament damage in the 1-0 defeat to Cameroon, which is expected to sideline him for around three months – as revealed by Sportv.

However, there is some positive news.

What’s the story?

Well, according to Doctor Rajpal Brar, Jesus is facing up to 12 weeks on the sidelines, but could return to action in less than 70 days.

Brar compares the situation to when Granit Xhaka suffered a similar injury, but returned to action in 70 days despite the fact he was also nursing a fracture as well, which Jesus is not.

You can see what was said on Twitter in full below.

Now, it is hardly ideal for Mikel Arteta, but if Brar is to be trusted, then the situation may not be as bad as it initially seemed.

Arsenal fans will hope Brar is correct, as they will severely miss Jesus while he recovers from his knee injury.

The 25-year-old has scored five goals and set up a further six in 14 Premier League appearances so far this season, playing a vital role as the Gunners sit five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Gabriel Jesus injury gives Eddie Nketiah a chance at Arsenal

Eddie Nketiah was given an opportunity at the end of last season, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was dismissed and Alexandre Lacazette suffered an injury.

The England Under-21 international took his chance, scoring five goals in the final seven Premier League games of the season to fire Arsenal to within touching distance of the Champions League.

Nketiah earned a new five-year contract thanks to his efforts, although he immediately returned to the bench after Jesus was signed.

Nevertheless, the Arsenal No.14 now has another opportunity to prove his worth to Arteta, and he will need to step up once again if the Gunners are to stay in the Premier League title race.
