Xabi Alonso believes the referees are treating Real Madrid quite unfairly.
In what was considered a must-win game for him, Xabi Alonso led Real Madrid to a crucial 2-1 win over Alaves to keep pace with F.C. Barcelona.
However, there was one call from the game that had fans and pundits talking a lot, as Vinicius Jr. went down in the box. However, the referee refused to give a penalty for it.

Xabi Alonso spoke to the press after Real Madrid’s win. While his team showed a marked improvement in performance, Alonso was more fixated on the missed penalty call.
Alonso suggested that the penalty call was clear and was surprised to see the referee not go to VAR. But he added that they weren’t surprised to see the call go against them, hinting at a negative bias towards them.
“The penalty on Vini is very clear. What shocked me is that the referee didn’t even go to VAR. Having said that, we’re not surprised. Not surprised.”
These types of comments against the referees aren’t new for Real Madrid. They had a similar tone last year ahead of the Supercopa de España final against Barcelona.
Despite Real Madrid’s win, Xabi Alonso has no reprieve just yet
Ahead of the game against Alaves, there was talk of Xabi Alonso possibly losing his job as head coach of Real Madrid.
Their poor record since mid-November has cost them the top spot in the La Liga table and some crucial wins in the UEFA Champions League, including against Liverpool.
Alonso still isn’t safe and must find a way to keep winning games to keep his job. The players seem to have bought into his project, as they are playing with a lot more intensity in each game.
For Alonso, he must get the team in a better position, as a loss before doing so could cost him his job with Los Blancos.
