AJ Styles is a WWE and wrestling legend in general and he’s been giving his opinion on the current state of the game, including WWE’s biggest competition, AEW.
AEW has had a positive impact on the wrestling world in the main. Just like the 1990s with WCW, it’s given WWE some competition in terms of TV, and also given countless wrestlers the chance to work for good money.
We’ve seen crossovers in both directions as well, and many of these have been met with excitement. Indeed, who can forget Cody Rhodes’ WWE return or Jon Moxley’s switch to AEW.
AJ Styles, of course, is now firmly retired and never stepped foot in AEW.
However, he’s been speaking of both WWE and AEW and admitted on his podcast that he sees no reason to criticise the competition.
AJ Styles gives his verdict on AEW after leaving WWE
Those of us who are familiar with Styles will know he’s a classy individual, as well as one of the greatest in-ring workers of all time.
And keeping his class, he’s admitted that he very much defends WWE but won’t go down the route of slating AEW either.
“I like the company that I work for, despite what everybody else thinks. I’m not one of those, ‘Oh, there’s another company stooge.’ My job is to do the best for the company that I’m working for. No matter which company I work for, my job is to do the best for it, and I’m going to do that. That’s just who I am,” Styles commented.
“Again, I’ve said this before, it’s not me protecting WWE. It’s me protecting the people who work for WWE, my peers, the guys I care about, and the women I care about who are there. So I will defend them because I know they’re busting their tails to put on a great show.”
Speaking specifically on his stance on AEW, Styles said he has no reason to criticise.
“I’m not going to bash AEW because those guys are doing the exact same thing. They’re trying to do their own thing, trying to be different, and I get it. So I’m not going to do that. That’s not what I’m about,” Styles continued.
“I think, to each their own. If you like one company and don’t like the other, good. But there’s no reason to just bash them because they’re different shows. I’m not going to do that.”
