Arsenal fans have laughed off claims from Nicolas Anelka regarding Kylian Mbappe.
The former striker told The Athletic that the PSG superstar might have to move to a club like Arsenal in order to win the Ballon d’Or.
Anelka played in the Premier League for the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Bolton, so he understands what it takes to try and work your magic in what he thinks is the ‘toughest league’ in the world.
Mbappe is regarded as one of the most feared forwards in world football and his hat-trick at the Nou Camp in the Champions League last season proved that.
But for the World Cup winner to be recognised like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have over the years, Anelka thinks moving to the Premier League, at clubs like Arsenal, and producing top performances could see him nab that ultimate individual prize.
Arsenal fans have found the funny side to their club legend using their club as an example.
When Anelka was a fresh-faced teenager scaring the living daylights out of defenders at Highbury with his raw pace and Olympian-like balance, such a statement would have been welcomed.
But the Gunners have declined in such a remarkable fashion since then that his comments are now understandably met with laughter.
In a way, that just goes to show how far Arsenal have fallen and what the perspective of them is now because that shouldn’t be the case.
Either way, if Mbappe does ever come to the Premier League then the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City will perhaps be the clubs more likely to sign the £154 million-rated superstar.
Nonetheless, here is a selection of Arsenal fans reacting to what they’re hearing from Anelka regarding Mbappe:
