Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos has told Dani Alves on Instagram that he is ‘worthy’ of his selection in Brazil’s squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 39-year-old, now plying his trade in Mexico for Club Universidad Nacional, was a surprise selection by Brazil boss Tite and he edged ahead of the likes of Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson Royal for that final spot.
Now, there are some Spurs fans that will tell you that Emerson Royal just simply hasn’t been good enough to earn his place at the 2022 World Cup.

But still, it’s not exactly a good sign for the Spurs defender that Alves, plying his trade in Mexico, and in the last legs of his career, is getting picked ahead of him.
Nonetheless, what a story it is for one of the greatest fullbacks to have ever played the game, as Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos was delighted to see him be part of one possible last dance.
“You are worthy of everything that is happening, brother,” Carlos told Alves in the comments section of his IG post.
CAN ALVES END CAREER ON THE HIGHEST OF HIGHS?
During Dani Alves’ trophy-laden career, he has won medals in France, Italy and his most successful destination of Spain when donning the famous colours of Barcelona.
But one trophy that alludes him is the World Cup.
It would be a fitting end to Alves’ career if he can help his nation add World Cup number five to their cabinet, and one thing is for sure, they have the team to go all the way.
The South American nations, alongside Argentina, and the current holders of France, will be expected to reach the last-four, that’s unless they meet before then.
