Duncan Castles has suggested on the Transfer Window Podcast that Kylian Mbappe has told friends he wants to join Liverpool.

Mbappe has been tentatively linked with Liverpool for a number of years now, with Jurgen Klopp’s side thought to have their eyes on the superstar striker.

With Mbappe’s PSG contract running down, his future is set to come into sharp focus this summer.

And Mbappe has apparently told friends that he would want to join Liverpool if the chance ever become available.

However, to force through the transfer it seems that FSG and Klopp would have to be prepared to break their wage structure to bring the French World Cup winner in.

“Of the clubs that are looking at Mbappe, the ones he has an interest in are Manchester United, Liverpool in particular, Real Madrid and Barcelona,” he said.

“Those are the four clubs he has identified as potential candidates.

“I think Liverpool have an opportunity should they try to pursue it to try and convince Mbappe to come to them rather than Real Madrid, but the big question mark is are FSG prepared to spend the kind of money required to take him from PSG.

“Not so much in the transfer fee, PSG have been indicating they would be looking for over 100 million euros this summer with one year to go.

“But in terms of the wages Mbappe is looking for wages which would put them on a par with Neymar, if not above, and that would be way beyond Liverpool’s current structure.

“He likes Liverpool as a club. He likes the Premier League and he likes Jurgen Klopp. I’m not saying it’s his first choice, but I’m saying he’s very clear with his friends that Liverpool is a club he’s interested in playing for.”

Mbappe was recently hailed by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports, and has also been labelled as ‘world-class’ by Didier Dechamps (Ligue 1).

He struck a hat-trick against Barcelona at the Nou Camp recently in the Champions League and is widely regarded as the very best prospect in football.

If ever there was a player who Liverpool would be justified in breaking the bank to sign then Mbappe would be it.

But whether they can get such an expensive deal done remains to be seen, despite the player’s apparent desire to move to Anfield.
