Keith Downie has said on Twitter that Newcastle United will not be able to sign Harrison Ashby from West Ham United on the final day of the summer transfer window.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that West Ham are not willing to sell Ashby on summer transfer deadline day.
Downie had earlier reported on Twitter that Newcastle were in talks with Premier League rivals West Ham over a move for the defender.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is looking for a right-back due to the injury suffered by Emil Krafth.
Ashby, 20, is out of contract at West Ham at the end of the season.
Harrison Ashby not going to join Newcastle from West Ham

Disappointing
In our view, Newcastle United not been able to sign Harrison Ashby from West Ham United will come as a blow for manager Eddie Howe.
Howe wants to sign a right-back, and now it seems that he will not get one.
Of course, there is still time for Newcastle to find another right-back, but it is hard to see the Magpies being able to bring in a quality player for that position so late in the summer transfer window.
