Reports linking FC Twente winger Daan Rots with a move to Premier League giants Leeds United have raised more than a few eyebrows in the Netherlands, reporter Leon ten Voorde tells De Ballon Verstand.
It seems that no one at De Grolsch Veste – not even Rots himself – are taking these links seriously.
Then again, when some rather ‘questionable’ rumours emerge from the depths of social media, it’s probably best to swallow them with a shovel load of salt.
A Leeds side in transition have already spent £18 million on one twinkle-toed Eredivisie forward this summer, Luis Sinisterra moving to Elland Road after a sparkling season at Feyenoord. But if you’re waiting for 20-year-old Rots to join the Colombian in West Yorkshire, well you’d better get comfortable.
Because you’ll be waiting a while.
Twente’s Daan Rots ‘will not go to Leeds United’

“It came in on Twitter and then I sent it to someone at FC Twente,” Ten Voorde explains. “I immediately got a message back: Don’t take it seriously.
“But Daan was harassed about that all the time at the training camp.
“Rots was messing around a bit with corner kicks and (team-mate Ricky) Van Wolfswinkel said something about that. Rots responded: ‘It doesn’t matter, does it? I’ll be playing in the Premier League soon anyway!’
“It was played with a bit, but Daan Rots will not go to Leeds United.”
While Sinisterra more than deserved his big break – scoring 23 goals for Feyenoord while firing the Rotterdammers to within touching distance of a European title, albeit the UEFA Conference League – Rots is only just getting started.
The 20-year-old made 23 starts during an impressive breakthrough campaign at FC Twente in 2021/22. But while there can be few doubts about his potential, Rots is yet to prove that he can be a difference maker in the Eredivisie, let alone the Premier League.
