Luis Sinisterra was absent from Feyenoord training on Monday as the Eredivisie winger closes in on an £18 million move to Premier League outfit Leeds United, as reported by Algemeen Dagblad.

Now, the Colombia international might not be as well known as some of Leeds’ other post-Raphinha targets; The Cody Gakpos and the Charles de Ketealaeres, for instance.

But make no mistake, this is one hell of an exciting signing. There has never been any doubt about Sinisterra’s talent but he took his game to a whole new level in 2021/22. A tally of 23 goals and 14 assists in all competitions mean Sinisterra is actually more prolific than PSV talisman Gakpo.

And, at an initial £18 million, he is cheaper than Gakpo too.

According to AD, Leeds will pay £18 million up front, rising to £21 million with add-ons. Sinisterra will sign a five-year deal at Elland Road, while replacing former Liverpool hero Dirk Kuyt as the most expensive acquisition in Feyenoord’s history (TMW).

Interestingly, the 24-year-old was conspicuous by his absence as Feyenoord began their pre-season preparations today. De Telegraaf add that he will be left out of their upcoming trip to Austria too, having been given permission to enter talks with Leeds.

“I think Sinisterra is really very good. He is perhaps the best left winger in the Eredivisie,” says Dutch legend Willem van Hanegam.

“I was lucky enough to be able to play with very good teams in almost every final. And there was often an exceptional player in my team,” adds Arie Haan. “That was Johan Cruijff at Ajax. That one exceptional player often makes the difference

“(Sinisterra) is the very best in the Feyenoord attack. If he has a good day – and he usually does – he possesses a lot of threat with the ball.”

Sinisterra, a left winger rather than a right-sider like Raphinha, was almost unplayable at times in 2021/22. His mesmerising performance – and ludicrous solo goal – in the UEFA Conference League victory over Partizan Belgrade has to be seen to be believed.

De Telegraaf add that Everton were also interested after losing Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur.
