Wolverhampton Wanderers will need to stump up £18 million in order to reunite Bruno Lage with Shakhtar Donetsk forward Pedrinho in the Premier League, Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola says on his YouTube channel.

Last season, only three teams in England’s top flight scored fewer goals than Wolves. It will not come as a surprise to any of you to learn that all of that shot-shy trio – Burnley, Watford and Norwich City – ended up in the relegation zone.

Now, there’s no reason to believe that Wolves are going to suffer a similarly grizzly fate next term but after dropping into the Premier League with such a splash under Nuno Espirito Santo, there’s a growing fear amongst the Molineux faithful that this is a club treading water.

This summer’s transfer window, then, could be the difference between a Wolves side rediscovering their bite, and a Wolves side cowering in the corner, their tail tucked between their legs.

Pedrinho, at least, would help raise the excitement levels at Molineux again. God knows they need that after two seasons that would cure even the nastiest case of insomnia.

Is Pedrinho heading to Wolves from Ukraine?

A skilful, unpredictable forward who uses his left boot like Vincent van Gogh used his right hand, Pedrinho worked with Bruno Lage at Benfica and Wolves have already held talks regarding a potential reunion in the Black Country.

According to the Brazilian’s agent, negotiations reached an ‘advanced’ stage before being placed on the backburner until the summer. Now that the swallows are signing and the daffodils are out in force, it remains to be seen whether Wolves will pick up where they left off.

Nicola claims that reigning Brazilian champions Atletico Mineiro are hoping to sign Pedrinho on a loan-to-buy deal. But there are two problems. One, Nicola says, comes in the form of major competition from the other side of the Atlantic.

In addition to Wolves, AC Milan, Ajax and also Atletico Madrid have made their interest known. What’s more, Shakhtar want £18 million – a fee Mineiro are in no position to offer, either now or in the immediate future.

“Wherever I am, I just want to play football and show my talent, whether in Europe or here in Brazil,” explains Pedrinho, who is currently keeping himself fit back home after fleeing war-torn Ukraine.

“I am very calm. Every footballer dreams of moving to Europe, but I don’t see a problem staying in Brazil.”
