Wolves have exercised an option to sign Jimenez permanently from Benfica and some fans of the Premier League club made their feelings known on Twitter.
Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have finally got a piece of news they’ve long been waiting for in the shape of Raul Jimenez being set to join the Premier League club permanently.
With 12 goals and eight assists from 32 Premier League games and three goals from five FA Cup games (Transfermarkt), the 27-year-old striker has become a Molineux fan favourite.
Wolves fans had urged the club on Twitter to sign him on multiple occasions, with his initial loan from Benfica set to expire at the end of the season.
In a statement on Thursday afternoon, the club confirmed they exercised the option to sign him on a permanent deal from 1 July 2019 and he will sign a four-year deal to keep him in the West Midlands until 2023.
As testament to his importance to the Wolves squad, OptaJoe pointed out on Twitter that the Mexico ace has been directly involved in 48 percent of Wolves’ 40 Premier League goals this season (19 – 12 goals, 7 assists), the highest ratio of any player for a club in the competition this term.
Jimenez had posted some teasers on his Twitter account in the shape of several retweets of a short video clip featuring the date 04/04/19, and on the day itself, he posted a longer version interspersed with clips of him on the pitch and in the dressing rooms, before finishing with the words “Raul se queda” (Raul is staying).
Needless to say, both the club’s Twitter communication and Jimenez’s tweet made a lot of Wolves fans very happy indeed:
