Leeds United fans wanted Nelson Oliveira at Elland Road – but The Whites reportedly dropped their interest in the Norwich City striker.

Leeds United might have signed Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Caleb Ekuban and Pawel Cibicki in the summer transfer window but, in the latter stages of August, The Whites appeared to want one more striker to complete their squad.
But despite considering a move for Norwich City’s Nelson Oliviera, the Yorkshire Evening Post claimed that The Whites eventually decided against the move.
Perhaps this was due to the Portuguese striker’s asking price with Oliveira understood to be valued at around £8 million. Or maybe Leeds were simply content with bringing in Cibicki from Malmo instead – a decision which doesn’t look great in hindsight.

Either way, with Leeds set to welcome Daniel Farke’s Norwich to Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, Oliveira may have a point to prove to Thomas Christiansen’s West Yorkshire giants.
It remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old starts the game having been in and out of Farke’s XI so far this season. Nonetheless, Oliveira has played the full 90 minutes five times over the last month and scored in the weekend’s 3-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday – meaning he is likely to keep his place.

And while Oliveira has only scored six goals in the Championship this season, Leeds fans may be wishing he was lining up in the famous white kit rather than the yellow and green of The Canaries.
The supporters were thrilled to learn that their side was considering a move for the one-time Benfica wonderkid in the summer – but they will have to pin their hopes on the currently goalless Ekuban instead as Norwich make the long trip up north.
