Fabrizio Romano has hinted that Arsenal could look to make transfers in the January window if the right player comes available for Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar.

Speaking to Caught Offside, the football transfer guru teased that the Gunners are primed to make some transfers in January if Arsenal believe there is cause to splash the cash on new recruits, with the north London side spending heavily over the last two summers.

Arsenal spent close to £120m this off-season on the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira as per Transfermarkt, and with the English giants sitting top of the Premier League standings after their best start to a league season in over 100 years, it’s safe to say that the Gunners’ business has been impressive.

However, despite this sensational start, many Arsenal fans would argue that more could be done in the market to bulk the squad out enough to challenge the likes of Manchester City for the Premier League title, namely signing a central midfield and backup for Bukayo Saka.

Indeed, Arsenal attempted to do both in the final month of the transfer window but were unsuccessful on the two fronts. Yet according to Romano, the Gunners will be ready to make moves in January if they feel a deal could be what’s needed to take the squad to the next level.

Romano said when asked about what Arsenal could do in the January transfer window: “They will be ready in case there will be good opportunities; midfielder and winger were two possibilities considered in the summer and are still in the potential plans, but it depends on the players.”

Arsenal have come close to the Premier League title since their last top-flight triumph back in 2004, yet this season could be the one where the north London side go all the way, and making transfers in January might be what tips the Gunners over the edge to best City.

After all, quality backup in key positions is how the biggest teams in the world are able to compete year-after-year for silverware, and if Arsenal can make one or two transfers in the winter window, Arteta will have a strong case of making history with the Gunners this season.
