Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted ahead of visiting Inter Milan in the Champions League last 16 that Liverpool ‘will be disappointed’ if they cannot win at least one trophy a season.
The full-back feels the Reds have the quality in their squad and manager in Jurgen Klopp to consistently lift silverware. They are also still in the running for Premier League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and European honours this term to atone for last season’s trophy drought.
Liverpool produced their first title-less campaign in three seasons last term after failing to defend the 2019/20 Premier League crown. They also exited the Champions League in the quarter-final, while bowing out of both the FA and EFL Cups in the respective fourth-round.

The ‘19/20 season had seen Liverpool lap up titles in the English top-flight, European Super Cup and Club World Cup. Their trio of titles followed glory in the Champions League, which also marked 23-year-old Alexander-Arnold’s first piece of silverware as a Liverpool regular.
Klopp’s side have a hurdle to overcome if they are to now add another Premier League title this season. The Merseysiders trail Manchester City by nine-points but hold a game in hand over Pep Guardiola’s outfit. The Reds are also seven-points clear of Chelsea in third-place.
Alexander-Arnold admits Liverpool ‘will be disappointed’ without a trophy a term
Alexander-Arnold is content with his haul of four titles in the last three-and-a-half seasons, but believes one trophy a term must be the bare minimum for a club like Liverpool as they prepare to face Inter Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The England star also notes, via quotes by TuttoMercatoWEB, how rivals like Manchester City have not lifted European titles despite their domestic successes over recent years.

“It’s not that we are disappointed,” he said. “What we have won are the most important competitions. Just think that City has never won the Champions League, and we have.
“Having said that, there are always incredible expectations at least we have to win a trophy a year. With the team we have, with the club and with the coach, we have to win trophies. If we don’t win, we will be disappointed – we will not be satisfied with reaching the final.”
Liverpool face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final for their first shot at silverware this season on February 27. Whoever wins the title at Wembley will end Manchester City’s stronghold on the competition, with the Citizens winning the last four and six of the last eight editions.
