Thomas Tuchel and Jude Bellingham have been the talk of England after the post-match comments following the win over Norway.
Following England’s 2-1 extra-time World Cup quarterfinal victory over Norway, many seemed to think a public rift had emerged between manager Thomas Tuchel and Jude Bellingham.
Despite Bellingham scoring both goals, Tuchel heavily criticized England’s performance as “sloppy” and “lucky,” sparking a defensive, prickly response from his midfielder.
Thomas Tuchel:
“The result is fantastic… but I’m not happy with the performance. In every sense. We made life very, very difficult for ourselves in the way we played: sloppy, a lot of technical mistakes, not fast enough… We were lucky today.”
Jude Bellingham:
“Yeah, well, whatever… it’s difficult out there. Maybe he doesn’t know what it’s like to play in those kind of conditions against Erling Haaland, Ødegaard, Nusa, Sørloth. That’s not an easy team to play against.”
This led to many England fans casting their eyes over the presser ahead of the Argentina clash, but absolutely nothing was asked on the matter.
English press hesitant to ask Thomas Tuchel about Jude Bellingham
A journalist by the name of Gary Al-Smith, who works for SportyFM Ghana, was at the press conference, and here’s what he took away from how it unfolded.
Not a single English journalist asked Tuchel about his thing with Jude at the press conference today. I found it strange, so I asked them. They said:
“If the team qualify to the final, it is also to the benefit of the media, so there is no need to play it any further.
“Team England had informally asked the media to let sleeping dogs lie so that they could focus on the bigger task.”
It is likely that the whole Bellingham and Tuchel situation has been blown out of proportion, with emotions high after the win and two individuals who both have fiery personalities.
