Wyndham Clark is unquestionably one of the most divisive characters on the PGA Tour.
Clark may not be the most popular player among golf fans, but when he’s on his ‘A’ game, he is undoubtedly one of the very best in the world.
The 32-year-old won the U.S. Open in 2023 and, at the time, he seemed destined to go on and become a huge star in the game.
However, Wyndham Clark has really struggled over the past 18 months or so. We all know he has the talent and ability to consistently be one of the best golfers on the PGA Tour, but he just hasn’t kicked on since his win at Los Angeles Country Club three years ago.

However, he has just started to produce the form that we all know he’s capable of over the past few weeks.
When he’s on form, Wyndham Clark is capable of mixing it with the very best on the PGA Tour.
Some fans may not appreciate Clark’s way of thinking or the way he goes about his business, but it is an undeniable fact that he is crucial to the PGA Tour right now.
The PGA Tour needs Wyndham Clark more than ever right now
Clark caused huge controversy last season when he damaged some of the lockers at Oakmont during the US Open.
He behaved poorly during the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in 2025 as well, hurling his club into advertising boards after a wayward drive.
While nobody can condone that behavior, there is always room for a ‘bad guy’ in elite level sports.
The PGA Tour undoubtedly has the best golfers in the world.
However, there is a real argument to be had that LIV Golf actually has the more colorful characters among their ranks.
Just look at some of the characters over on LIV Golf.
They have the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Tyrrell Hatton, Jon Rahm, Anthony Kim and Josele Ballester.

Sure, they’re not all the most popular of players, but they are all straight shooters. None of them are afraid of controversy and they always guarantee some interesting talking points at the very least.
The main problem on the PGA Tour is that the leading players, while explosive on the golf course, are too ‘vanilla’ off of it.
Wyndham Clark pulls no punches with his actions and whether or not you agree with some of his recent behavior, he definitely attracts eyeballs to the PGA Tour.
This was proven when Clark’s win at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson last month produced the most-watched third round on cable the PGA Tour has seen over the last 12 months.
Alan Shipnuck says the PGA Tour need Wyndham Clark, the ‘anti-hero’
Shipnuck was a guest on the Dan on Golf Show, and explained why Wyndham Clark adds a certain level of spice to the PGA Tour.
“Wyndham is a great anti-hero,“ Shipnuck said.
“You know, he’s polarizing, and there are very few guys on the PGA Tour like that.
“They all went to LIV.
“He kind of leans into it almost (potential of being an asshole), and so, Wyndham’s an important piece on the PGA Tour.
“He’s not one of these vanilla nice guys. I mean, he riles people up. So that’s a good thing. The Tour needs that.
“Having him at the top of the leaderboards is helpful because it just adds a little seasoning to the whole thing.“
Shipnuck is spot on with that take.
Love him or loathe him, Wyndham Clark adds a certain amount of excitement and controversy to proceedings on the PGA Tour.
And that is what the PGA Tour has been lacking since numerous outspoken characters left to join LIV Golf.
It’s time to appreciate Wyndham Clark for what he is and what he brings to the professional game.
