Wyndham Clark very much divides opinion in the professional game, just like Bryson DeChambeau does.

They are both sensational golfers who, when they’re on their best form, are capable of overpowering golf courses and dominating tournaments.

However, both players have received plenty of criticism for their behavior at one time or another throughout their careers.

Wyndham Clark caused huge controversy last season when he damaged some of the lockers at Oakmont during the US Open.

He behaved poorly during the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in 2025 as well.

Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau has been under the microscope as well, with some golf fans suggesting that his newly-found happy-go-lucky persona is nothing more than a facade.

How Paul McGinley really feels about Wyndham Clark

It has been suggested that, deep down, Wyndham Clark is actually a very nice person.

After his win at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson, Clark actually received plenty of well wishes from his fellow pros.

Paul McGinley made an appearance in the Sky Sports Golf studio on Sunday evening.

And the Irishman was asked whether criticisms of Clark over the past year or so have been slightly unfair.

Well, I know him a little bit, Wyndham,” McGinley said.

I like him. In terms of his golf game, it’s really good.

He’s won some big tournaments. This guy’s won some big tournaments around some great golf courses.

He’s won around Quail Hollow, then won around Los Angeles Country Club in terms of winning the US Open there in such a brilliant manner.

He’s a superb player. He’s a very aggressive player, and a player who works a lot on his confidence.

When his mindset is in the right place, and we saw that a few weeks ago when he won, he’s got all the talent in the world.

When the conditions are laid down, he’s a guy who’s able to go forward with that aggressive form of golf that he has.

So he is a guy, I talk about it being a game of two halves, and this golf course, laying down a little bit compared to the first two days.

He is the guy who’s got the potential to come out and shoot a low number today. That’s his DNA. He just goes low when he’s in the mood.

Paul McGinley compares Wyndham Clark to Bryson DeChambeau

McGinley compared Clark with DeChambeau during his appearance on Sky Sports Golf on Sunday afternoon.

He’s different, the former Ryder Cup captain admitted.

His personality’s a little bit quirky, I think it’s fair to say. I’d put him kind of nearly in the same bracket as Bryson.

Maybe not as extreme as Bryson, but that’s kind of the place that he lives in, personality-wise.

He works a lot with a psychologist called Julie Elion, and she’s a wonderful lady. Does great work with him, and I think her patience is tested with him because he does get hot.

That is actually a very astute observation from McGinley.

Wyndham Clark and Bryson DeChambeau have very similar personalities and their quirkiness, so to speak, is probably what makes them such fascinating characters.
