LIV Golf has finally been handed world ranking points, but not everyone in the breakaway league is happy with the outcome.
Having previously been left out, LIV will officially be included in the OWGR system from the 2026 season.
The decision still has not settled frustration within the Saudi-backed league, who feel its players deserved recognition earlier.
OWGR ruling leaves LIV Golf figures annoyed

Scott O’Neil spoke out against the ruling, and Jon Rahm also expressed frustration that only the top 10 finishers at LIV events will be eligible for points.
It looks like there will be more discussions ahead. But for now, LIV might have a chance to use this ruling to their advantage each week.
The points awarded for 10th place are not especially large – they are roughly on par with what someone finishing 29th at the WM Phoenix Open would earn.
Still, after such a long spell without any points, even a small boost could help some players who have dropped down the rankings while playing on LIV.
This adds another angle for LIV’s final day broadcasts. Now there is an extra reward in play for anyone who can get themselves into the top 10 by Sunday evening.
OWGR points give 10th place a new level of importance for LIV
Players finishing 10th in LIV events have already walked away with a significant payday. In 2025, that spot will be worth $405,000, along with points towards the league’s own standings, according to Golf Monthly.
Now there is added incentive beyond just prize money and standings. OWGR points make every spot in the top 10 even more meaningful.
It is similar to how Formula One fans have seen the battle for the final point create drama late in races, especially when the podium is already set. It adds another storyline for players further down the order.
Beyond that, LIV may eventually secure even more ranking points. This first step shows progress in gaining OWGR recognition.
Until then, they can use this change to highlight how much more valuable a top-10 finish has become each week.
